Apple has pulled from the App Store around 5,000 apps that were sexual in nature. Apple chose not to remove apps by more well-known publications, like Playboy and Sports Illustrated.

• It would be better wording to say: Apple has pulled about 5,000 applications from the App Store...
• Apps should be spelled out; it's not actually a word (although you can use it with the App Store because that's a proper name).
• By saying "more" I'm looking for a comparison between well-known and not well-known, but you just give the names of two well-known makers.
